¿New Gärsnäs furniture at Stockholm Furniture Fair 3-7 February 2015
This year’s new developments are attuned to the Gärsnäs philosophy of making knowledge and craftsmanship, coupled with fine, carefully worked-out detailing, blossom forth into a sustainable entity.
The prize-winning Färg & Blanche duo are represented by a set of new stools, Jack and Elsa, an addition to their Emma series. The stools are linked to Emma and Emily by making the stockinged leg section a recurrent detail. The distinctive leggings, recognisable from the Emma armchair and the Emily easy chair, serve to unite the growing family. Fredrik Färg & Emma Marga Blanche take up the story:
“When we began sketching, it seemed obvious that a supplementary stool had to have an idiom and a life of its own. We wondered what we should call them, and it seemed important that they should have individual names. Then we thought of the owners, Anna and Dag, and their dogs, which are almost part of the furniture in the Gärsnäs showroom. So of course the stools had to be named after them – the little one Elsa, the big one Jack.”
Färg & Blanche are also broadening the Emily series with Emily II. The chair is now obtainable with a swivel base.
David Ericsson will be presenting Madonna, a light-weight beech chair and armchair of slender dimensions, inspired partly by the Italian Chiavari chair and the classic Swedish step stool. In David Ericsson’s design, the two are brought together in a perfect harmony of stability and fragility.
Designer duo Patrik Bengtsson & Pierre Sindre are represented by the PoP stool, which is a continuation of their series for the activity-based office. PoP is a functional wooden stool with a high seating level, intended for sessions of varying length at, say, a project table or bar counter. It’s a solid wooden stool with an in-built gas piston for height adjustment. It comes with or without a backrest and with either a solid wooden seat or a padded one.
David Regestam of Wingårdhs has designed the new Kolonn (Column) series of tables, characterised by a sculpted leg, The sculptural shape is functional, affording strong support on the floor, tapering to give leg room and lightness, and then broadening out again to carry the table top. Tables of indefinite length can be assembled by adding more columns, with no legs getting in people’s way. Any electronics can be invisibly trunked up through the central frame.
Åke Axelsson´s Zen series is based on a tapered shape which has shown itself to have manifold uses. The Zen Conference chair is the latest addition. The absence of armrests makes it more economical of space and easy to get into and out of.
This year’s exhibition stand has been designed by Färg & Blanche, who have focused on the superb craftsmanship and woodworking which are Gärsnäs’s hallmark, while at the same time highlighting Gärsnäs’s artistry and go-ahead spirit.
