Scandinavians largest test bench

With one of the largest test benches in Northern Europe CERTEX targets on attracting new customers from Scandinavia and Northern Germany. The new equipment is being installed in a separate facility in the Portof Esbjerg. The investment was made to meet the new market needs that have arisen when constructions grow bigger and heavier.

The Esbjerg situated company Peter Harbo A/S, part of the CERTEX group, has invested in a test bench, which is among the largest of its kind in Scandinavia. And it is expected to draw in new assignments from all over Scandinavia and in Northern Europe.

It has been necessary to build a separate facility in order to house the new pulling test bench which is 20,5 meters long and has capacity to test lifting equipment up to 1200 t (pulling force) and dimensions up to seven meters. The extensive capacity opens up new market prospects within the offshore, wind power, iron and metal industry as well as shipping and other marine related businesses.

 - The tendency in the market is that constructions grow bigger and heavier hence increasing the requirements to the lifting devices used for handling these constructions. The wind power industry is a good example with it´s still bigger mills, says CERTEX managing director Peter Keith.

The total investment in the pulling test bench as well as the building of new facilities sums up to approx. 5 million DKK enabling CERTEX to take on brand new assignments. Previously, the company has had to send larger subjects abroad for testing. But the new equipment allows the company to service these subjects itself and it is expected that this will attract customers from Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Northern Germany. Lifting equipment such as lifting beams, wirers, chains, ropes, blocks and fittings is subject to requirements regarding regular inspections. It will now be possible to carry out these inspections in Denmark, which will be time saving for the users.

- The million investment was possible thanks to our Swedish mother company. And I think we are sending a good signal in a time when companies in general are holding back investments which could strengthen their market position. With one of the largest test benches in Northern Europe we have created a new way making contact to our existing customers as well as new ones, says managing director Palle S. Ankersen.
 

Peter Harbo A/S was founded in 1973 with the objective to service the fishing industry but already towards the late seventies the focus was aimed at the oil and gas industry. Demands on quality and service round the clock have since been the focal point of the organization.
