CSC to Demonstrate its Infrastructure Utility Service at VMworld in Copenhagen
One of First IU Offers in Support of SAP® Solutions Built on Vblock™ Infrastructure Platforms by VCE
COPENHAGEN, Oct. 19 – At its pavilion on VMworld in Copenhagen, CSC will demonstrate its Infrastructure Utility (IU) for the cloud – in support of SAP® solutions – built on Vblock™ Infrastructure Platforms from VCE the Virtual Computing Environment Company. Organizations can now decide to implement new SAP applications or refresh an existing implementation of SAP solutions quickly, easily and at reduced cost. Hear the presentation and see if SAP on the Cloud is right for you in the CSC Solution Pavilion 53 at VMworld in Copenhagen, October 18-20.
CSC IU enables an organization to bring its licenses for SAP software to the CSC Trusted Cloud anywhere in the world, on premises or off. Unlike other infrastructure utility offers, CSC enables organizations to rapidly migrate SAP workloads to the cloud and even move workloads between dedicated and shared infrastructures. This hybrid cloud model is enabled by providing consistent cloud fabric, management processes, rate card and service tiers.
Preparing to offer CSC IU, CSC implemented its own instance of the SAP ERP Human Capital Management (SAP ERP HCM) application on the CSC Trusted Cloud. CSC’s selected to use SAP ERP HCM because it is mature and has seasonal requirements for computing capacity and serves the needs of 93,000 global employees.
“By validating improved resource utilization and operational efficiency with our own implementation of SAP ERP HCM, we can now offer the same performance to our customers,” explained Siki Giunta, vice president, Cloud Computing and Software Services, CSC. “The results of the proof-of-concept deployment were impressive. We were able to achieve the same I/O performance and SAPS rating with 60 percent less resources. In addition, we anticipate that by using the software tools provided with the Vblock platform, we’ll improve our operational efficiency for Basis Layer services and infrastructure management. These are operational savings that contribute to the overall lower Total Cost of Ownership of an implementation of SAP solutions.”
“Cloud computing allows IT to be more responsive to the business,” said Todd Pavone, senior vice president for Solutions, VCE. “Today''s announcement with CSC underscores the momentum for this delivery model as customers continue to realize the benefits of cloud computing based on Vblock Infrastructure Platforms."
CSC IU supports all aspects of SAP solution-based infrastructure, including compute, storage, back-up/restore, disaster recovery and Basis Layer services. It is developed on Vblock platforms, the powerful, standardized cloud foundation from VCE that combines leading virtualization software from VMware; unified networking, security and computing from Cisco; and storage, security and management technologies from EMC. As compared to traditional implementation alternatives, CSC IU offers the advantages of lowering total cost, the ability to scale up or back to address business requirements, and increased productivity of professionals that will no longer have to manage implementations of SAP solutions.
