Representatives of Distrupol in the Nordics helped instruct over 100 designers, engineers, moulders and design students from across the region in the finer points of ‘Designing in Plastics’, at an event organised by leading Swedish polymer magazine Plastforum on 20 November. Distrupol was a key sponsor and presenter at the one-day conference held in Stockholm. Other sponsors included polymer supplier DuPont, moulder Plasto of Norway and the German laser-sintering company EOS. The debut event was well received by delegates, sponsors and organisers alike.

The conference was aimed at today’s and tomorrow’s designers and material specifiers, with the objective of promoting the use of polymers, particularly as a substitute for metal, encouraging cost-effective and fit for purpose design. The event was based around morning presentations by the four sponsors on material selection, designing for metal replacement, smart processing and rapid manufacture. In the afternoon, delegates had the opportunity to explore these topics in further detail during workshops led by Distrupol, DuPont and Plasto.

Distrupol kicked off proceedings with a presentation on polymer selection, entitled ‘The Choice is Yours!’ “It focused on arriving at a material choice that is fit for function, which is essential for getting the most out of polymer design,” explained Jon Asle Sjöli, the recently-appointed Market & Development Manager for Distrupol Nordic. “Because our Product Information Centre (PIC) is an effective tool in sourcing the right polymer for the right application, it was the focal point of our workshop, with the opportunity for delegates to try it out for themselves.”

Feedback from the participants, amongst whom were design and project managers from companies such as Ikea and Scania, as well as representatives of leading design agencies and students from Sweden’s renowned Konstfack college of arts, craft and design, was very positive. “I got a comprehensive overview of the key areas to consider when designing in plastics”, one participant said. This positive evaluation of the event was also reflected by the sponsors: “A targeted event which was an ideal platform for creating future growth for our business,” concluded Jon Asle.
