Conformal coating

Dymax announces Dual-Cure™ 9481, representing the latest advancement in UV/moisture cure technology.

Historically, light-cured conformal coatings have been most successful in applications with no or minimal shadowing. Shadow areas, which can inhibit the access of light, have the potential to hold or trap the conformal coating and perhaps limit the light exposure of the materials. In recent years, several companies have made attempts to commercialize conformal coatings which address the need for shadow curing with conventional moisture curing as a secondary cure mechanism. Most of these attempts have had limits related to the efficiency of the cure as well as the consistency of the final properties. Other challenges have included special packaging and handling requirements as well as objectionable odors. DYMAX Dual-Cure 9481 addresses each of these challenges.

Dymax Dual-Cure 9481 is a step forward. With this product, shadowed areas cure over time with moisture, eliminating the need for secondary heat cure. The low viscosity of the material is optimal for spraying thin coatings of 0.001" – 0.003" thickness and it fluoresces brighter than DYMAX’s other conformal coatings when exposed to UV light.

Dymax has conducted extensive laboratory and field testing of Dual-Cure 9481. The results indicate substantial progress in overcoming the challenges typically associated with conventional dual-cure materials. Dual-Cure 9481 is formulated for high-volume production and field trials have resulted in very favorable response from a variety of PWB board assemblers.
