Wittmann: Dual Arm Telescopic Robot
for High Speed Applications on Mid-range Presses
WITTMANN W823D servo robot
WITTMANN’s latest introduction is the W823D dual arm telescopic robot with 5 servo axes
designed for automation of stack molds and other applications requiring two vertical arms.
The W823D dual arm telescopic servo robot allows simultaneous or sequential operation of
each vertical arm in order to remove parts from stack molds in medium tonnage machines up
to 400 tonnes (440 U.S. tons). The independent control also permits operation with family
stack molds where parts have different designs and handling characteristics.
The W823D servo robot has a fixed kick-stroke beam and two telescopic vertical arms on the
Y-axis, offering payloads of 3, 5 or 10 kg for each arm. The Y-axis provides fast strokes of
1,000 or 1,200 mm with minimum vibration while reducing the clearance requirements for
applications with low ceilings or other obstacles like cranes, mezzanines, etc. and where robot
automation may not have previously been possible.
The Y-axis is available in three speed settings based on the payload:
• UHS: Ultra High Speed Servo – 2 x 3 kg payload
• HS: High Speed Servo – 2 x 5 kg payload
• Standard Servo – 2 x 10 kg payload
The dual arm high speed (HS) option is for applications requiring less than a 10 second
overall cycle time and the ultra high speed (UHS) option for cycle times under 6 seconds.
The X-axis has a 1,200 mm reach and a fixed kick-stroke. The Z-axis is available with strokes
from 2,000 to 5,000 mm. The robot is equipped, as standard, with 1 vacuum and 1 gripper
circuit per arm. Additional options are available to suit the specific application.
The W823D is equipped with WITTMANN’s new R8 control with full color industrial LCD
display for simple, flexible programming. The control cabinet is fully integrated on the robot
eliminating the need for bulky cabinets or extra wiring and the related maintenance issues.
