Ter Hell Plastic represents Borealis as new distributor for advanced packaging and healthcare solutions at Fakuma 2008

Ter Hell Plastic GmbH has been selected by Borealis, a leading provider of innovative, value creating plastics solutions, to distribute its advanced polyolefin materials to the thin wall packaging, houseware, caps and closures, and healthcare sectors.

The distribution cooperation, which took effect from 1 October 2008, is focused on the polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) markets in France and Eastern Europe as well as on the PP markets in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

“Ter Hell Plastic’s global but local approach to distribution and expertise in added-value plastic products provide a natural fit with Borealis’ commitment to developing materials that make a real difference to customers in growth segments, such as advanced packaging and healthcare,” comments Wim Roels, Borealis Vice President for Business Unit Moulding. “Its strong track record as one of the leading distributors in Central Europe and on-going expansion into Eastern Europe will further improve product availability and the support we can provide to customers in these regions.”

A first official outing takes place at Fakuma 2008, where in Hall B1, Stand No. 1206, Ter Hell Plastic features recently introduced Borealis products RJ900MO and Borsoft™ SG220MO. These and other Borealis products are also featured by Ashland (Hall A3, Stand No. 3217) and Lenorplastics (Hall B3, Stand No. 3123).

The Borstar® PP grade RJ900MO was developed to meet the packaging market needs for shorter cycle times, transparency and mechanical properties in applications such as house- and kitchenware and food packaging. The material also offers very good organoleptic properties and low extractables to meet the needs of the packaging producer, filler and end user.

Borsoft SG220MO is a pure PP solution that simplifies production, adds material cost-saving benefits and delivers the performance benefits essential to the successful production of complex, sturdy, see-through thin wall containers with easy-to-open lids, even in refrigerator environments.

Both grades were developed using Borealis’ proprietary Borstar PP 2G technology, the latest generation of multi-modal processes. Yielding a step change in polymer design, Borstar PP 2G consists of a new catalyst system in combination with process improvements. This results in a simplified process with fewer steps that offers even better safety, through modified catalyst handling.

Borstar 2G PP extends Borealis’ existing product range with innovations focused on unique combinations of outstanding, highly-differentiated properties. In addition to new levels of purity, the packaging industry will be able to take advantage of materials with excellent transparency, softness, toughness and good sealing strength after sterilisation. From a processing perspective, the improved stiffness and impact balance of 2G PP aids processability and output levels by supporting high line speeds.
