Synventive extends its product range with new nozzles and cylinders for small multi-cavity applications
Synventive Molding Solutions, known up to now for large to medium-sized hot runner systems primarily for the automotive industry, has expanded its product range to include shot weights as small as 0.1 grams. Numerous multi-cavity moulds for the production of components for the automotive, electrical and packaging industries and in medical technology have already been delivered – mostly as hot halves, including temperature controllers – with the new nozzles and cylinders.
“Wide inside and small outside” was the primary requirement in the development of the smaller nozzles. This resulted in four new series of nozzles, two in size 04 and two series in size 03 with standard injection duct diameters of 4.0 and 3.5 mm respectively. Despite the slim outline and a maximum nozzle length of 186 mm, the range of realisable injection flowbore diameters is 2.5 to 6.0 mm in size 04 and 2.0 to 4.5 mm in size 03. A major contribution to the very favourable relationship of inner and outer diameters is made by the compact and interchangeable heaters.
Four nozzle series are available to cover a wide range of applications. The 04 C01 series replaces the CA series of nozzles, which did not have interchangeable heaters. Depending on the mould
construction, the heaters can now be changed from the front as well as from the rear. The 04 C02 series is a new development with many special features to simplify the toolmaker's work. For
instance, the nozzle head decouples axial and radial positioning, saving the toolmaker a major work step. The positioning joint is flat on the mould plate surface and the adjustment of the nozzle
contact at the bottom of the clearance hole becomes redundant. The cables for heating and
thermocouple are laid in the direction of the nozzle tip, so that they can easily be changed from the front.
The 03C01 and 03C02 series of nozzles are in the pre-series phase and go one step smaller than size 04. Special feature of the 03C02 series of nozzles: they are screwed onto the nozzle holder plate from the front, so that they can be completely changed from the front, provided that no melt seeps out of the manifold.
The HYC 2508 hydraulic valve actuating cylinder developed for the new nozzle series is very compact and has all the important quality characteristics of this proven product range: for both simplicity of assembly and speed of servicing, the valve pin can be adjusted in situ (+/- 1 mm). Rotary locking of the valve pin guarantees that its tip is always precisely positioned – particularly important for the interface with freely shaped or canted surfaces. A patented, active cooling of the valve pin guides and the decoupling of the oil chamber provide high stability and the compact construction support designs in very restricted spaces. To achieve a high level of operating reliability the cylinder is screwed to the manifold, excluding any offset between cylinder and manifold due to thermal
expansion. In 2006, a pneumatic version of this cylinder will be available to meet clean room
conditions.
Along with a fully wired and pre-piped system, Synventive offers an efficient temperature controller to deliver a complete and tested system, ready for immediate use.
