Borealis’ blow fill and seal (BFS) low density polyethylene (LDPE) products for healthcare packaging are back and taking pride of place among its comprehensive range of Bormed™ dedicated polyolefins at Pharmapack 2009, Stand E11.

Borealis, a leading provider of innovative value creating plastics solutions, has reintroduced its BFS series to the market in response to customer demand for the continued availability of the high-performance grades for such applications as soft and flexible bottles and ampoules. The series will be presented alongside Borealis’ portfolio of value-adding packaging materials for pharmaceutical and diagnostic products, medical devices and parentheral, ophthalmic and entheral solutions, designed specifically to meet the needs of the demanding, innovative and safety-driven healthcare market.

Pharmaceutical packaging produced with Bormed is easy to sterilise, provides good barriers against humidity, it is chemically inert and offers excellent transparency. The polyethylene and polypropylene grades are suitable for a broad variety of moulding and film applications, independent of conversion technology and polymer type. Such requirements are of particular importance within the specialised healthcare industry.

As a result, the Bormed range allows for the safe, straightforward production of senior-friendly yet childproof packaging. A lightweight solution, polyolefin-based packaging is convenient to use, without the risk of breakage, and can be disposed of in an environmental friendly way, for example through incineration.

To meet the healthcare industry’s demands for consistent supply and peace of mind, all Bormed materials are produced and controlled under strict conditions. They have a drug master file (DMF) at the United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) and have been tested according to the US Pharmacopeia Class VI requirements. In addition, most of the Bormed grades comply with biocompatibility standards as specified in ISO 10993.

“Borealis offers a high-level service package, focused on providing the quality, stability, reliability, responsiveness and trust required by the specialised healthcare market,” comments Maggie Saykali, Application Marketing Manager, Business Unit Moulding, Borealis. “Product-wise we are committed to developing new polyolefin solutions that add real value, fulfilling specific customer needs and meeting the challenges of existing and future applications. This combination delivers the peace of mind healthcare customers require.”
