Mölnlycke Health Care introduce improved Hibisol

Mölnlycke Health Care is launching an improved version of their Hibisol product at The 4th Congress of the European Operating Room Nurses Association in Dublin, Ireland on 25-28th May 2006.

The improved formulation has been developed to give a better hand feel & reduce the sticky build up often experienced with repeat use of alcohol hand rubs. This has been achieved by replacing the existing emollients. The two new emollients (Cyclomethicone 5 NF and Isopropyl Isostearate) have been added to the formulation to assist the product to spread easily on the skin, impart a smooth softening skin feel during and after use and to help prevent moisture loss.

This change is part of Mölnlycke Health Cares' ongoing commitment to improving their products in response to the needs of customers. 64% of end users stated a preference for improved Hibisol when the old and improved versions were compared in a blind test1. End-users reported hands were left feeling soft and smooth and conditioned during and after single and repeated use with improved Hibisol1.

Cross-infection is a constant problem on busy wards, where staff are under heavy demands, and handwashing compliance is an issue. There is a need for a smarter 'solution' to the problem of cross-contamination on wards2. Hibisol combines the rapid kill and convenience of alcohol with the long-lasting effect of chlorhexidine3.

In fingertip testing the bactericidal activity of an alcohol gel disappeared after less than two minutes whilst in the same test the bactericidal effect of Hibisol was undiminished after 15 minutes2.
