Distrupol brings clarity to IMPRISAC's multi-layer packaging

Improvements in transparency and processibility for new 5-layer gas barrier films

Distrupol's comprehensive approach to customer support led to its selection by French packaging specialist, IMPRISAC, for assistance in developing a new line of 5-layer gas barrier films. Of key importance was to achieve step improvements in film transparency and processibility. To do this, Distrupol, a member company of Univar and a leading European polymer distributor and solutions provider, worked with IMPRISAC technicians to establish the ideal material property profile.

Ultimately the material chosen was Aquamid AQL 34 from Aquafil Technopolymers. A natural, unreinforced PA 6 with a viscosity of 3.4, Aquamid gave improved processibility and better transparency. It met all performance and aesthetic criteria as a core layer in IMPRISAC's PE/PA/PE and PP/PA/PP film constructions.

IMPRISAC films are produced in tubular form, flat film or as pouches, using a coextrusion and blowing process. They are widely used in the food industry for fresh foodstuffs requiring protection from atmosphere, humidity and odours. In these applications, the overall enhancement achieved in transparency can improve product presentation and add significantly to consumer appeal. The gas barrier properties of IMPRISAC's 5-layer films also give them a fit in product packaging for the medical, chemical, nuclear and aviation industries.

According to Véronique Reveille, Commercial Manager of Distrupol in France: "The approach from IMPRISAC gave us the opportunity to show how our materials knowledge can benefit the customer. It also allowed us to demonstrate our commitment to be more than just a deliverer of materials. We can make a positive difference to customers' operations by sharing our technical resources with them to speed up development time and combine good results with cost efficiency."
